TIP: Start making the bun first as it will take the most amount of time
Ingredients:
| 1 Tsp Yeast
| 1 1/4 Cup Flour
| 1/3 Cup Warm Water 105°-110°
| 1/3 Large Egg (save remaining for basting)
| 1/2 Tbsp Butter, Melted
| 1/2 Tbsp Olive Oil
| 1 Tbsp Sugar
| 1/2 Tsp Salt
| 1 Tsp Milk
| Sesame Seeds
| Olive Oil (for covering the dough prior to rising)
Yields 4 Servings
Total Prep & Cook Time - 2 1/2 hours
Method:
-
Use large bowl combine heated water with the sugar until dissolved. Then add the yeast. Let it sit for 10 min.
-
Add 1/2 of the flour to the mixture in bowl.
-
Then add egg, oil, butter, and salt and mix until incorporated.
-
ext add the remaining flour
-
Remove from bowl to hard surface and kneed 5 - 10 min
-
(You may need to add more flour based on your climate/environment)
-
You want the dough to be tacky and sticky like a post it note.
-
Lightly coat bowl with olive oil and rotate dough in bowl to lightly cover it in oil.
-
Leave in bowl and cover for 1-2hrs (until doubled - cover with plastic wrap)
-
Remove dough and pat down the dough and divide into 4 balls Arrange on parchment paper and baking sheet (they will expand, so be sure to give them space)
-
Cover the baking sheet without letting the plastic wrap or cover touch the dough. We find using a 15-inch x 10-inch x 2-inch Pyrex dish helpful as it covers completely leaving room for the dough to expand
-
Rise for 1hr or until doubled.
-
Preheat oven to 375°
-
Mix remaining egg with milk, lightly brush on buns
-
Sprinkle sesame seeds on top of buns
-
Bake until lightly browned on top for 10-15 min
