The bun recipe yields 4 buns, so if you are making the bean burger to serve 6 please keep that in mind.

Ingredients:

| 1/4 of Red Bell Pepper

| 1/4 of Yellow Onion

| 2 Green Onions

| 1 Garlic Clove

| 1 Can of Black Beans (15 oz)

| 1 Can of Chickpeas (15 oz)

| 1/2 Cup Breadcrumbs

| 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce

| 1 1/2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce

| 1 Egg

| 1 Tbsp Cumin

| 1 Tbsp Chili Powder

| 1/2 Tsp Cayenne Pepper

| 2 Generous Pinches of Salt (Course-ground Kosher Salt)

| 5 or so Cracks of Fresh Cracked Pepper

| 1/2 Tbsp Olive Oil

| 1/2 Tbsp Butter

| Food processor or Ninja

Method:

  1. Slice off 1/4 of red pepper and onion and cut into chunks

  2. Slice firm end of green onions into small pieces

  3. Place in food processor until finely diced

  4. Dice garlic clove

  5. Combine red pepper and onion mixture with diced garlic into medium sized bowl

  6. Drain cans of beans to remove the liquid but do not rinse

  7. Add beans to mixture in bowl and mix

  8. With a large fork, mash the bean mixture so it forms a paste. Be sure to leave some beans here and there whole or not entirely mashed to add texture

  9. Add soy sauce and Worcestershire and mix

  10. Add all spices - cumin, chili powder, cayenne, salt, pepper and mix

  11. Next, add the egg. With a fork, gently beat to mix the egg and then combine with the bean mixture

  12. Add the 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs and mix thoroughly

  13. Form mixture into 6 patties

  14. Over the top of each patty pour a small amount of soy sauce just to coat the top. Then sprinkle a pinch of salt on each patty.

  15. In a large skillet heat the olive oil and butter on med-high heat.

  16. Once hot, add the patties and cook each side for about 10 minutes. It's hard to overcook these burgers so if you leave them on a little longer it will just add even more crisp to the outside. If your patties begin to stick or the pan is getting too dry just add a little more oil

  17. When cooked, serve with a fresh bun & desired toppings (See my Recipe Here)
